Raccoon’s Trash Can

Everyone experienced today differently

Today was someone’s best day ever. Another had their worst. Today is someone’s first breath. Someone took their last. Eight billion people, eight billion different stories. Somewhere, someone just fell in love for the first time. Somewhere else, someone lost the person they thought they’d never live without.

We all experienced today differently.

I get this feeling quite often. It’s called sonder. We are main characters in our perception, but everyone you passed today saw you differently. Maybe they thought about you, but maybe they just noticed you, and went on about their day. We all live inside our own stories. We spend so much time wondering what others think of us, but most of the time they don’t. They’re too busy thinking about themselves - their own mistakes, their own needs that they have to satiate. But maybe you are in the other side of the spectrum. Maybe you think no one notices you, like you’re invisible. Remember that you were a stranger in someone’s memory, someone’s side character. The barista who handed you your drink, the stranger you brushed past at the crossing, the person behind you in line, lost in their own thoughts. You passed through their world without even realising it.

You’re not unseen, you’re part of everyone’s story, even if you’ll never know where you appear.
